Phonics and Reading

Phonics
Phonics is taught through quality first teaching using letters and sounds scheme of work. This is supplemented in the early years through Jolly Phonics. Once children have progressed through all phases teaching then focuses on age appropriate spelling patterns and rules.
Reading
Early reading is supported by a range of schemes, which include Oxford Reading Tree, Rigby Star and Collins Publications to ensure children are exposed to a wide variety of texts. As children progress through school the variety of books available to the children continues to increase. The teaching of literacy is enriched through the 'Power of Reading' making books the focus of literacy lessons.
