Curriculum Subjects

To ensure pupils study the full curriculum, ample opportunities are made for continuity and progression in all areas of learning. Because we have a focus on teaching knowledge and skills in a consistent and rigorous way, across the whole school, Year 6 curriculum is not dominated and narrowed by focusing solely on SATs outcomes and test technique.

We have a mixed model that combines topics and discrete teaching of subjects. Topics are humanities focused, so pupils are given the opportunities to learn about their local heritage, develop a better understanding of who they are, and to be proud of where they come from.

Furthermore, pupils gain an insight into how people from the past have shaped their lives today. This encourages them to develop an understanding of diversity, helps them to form their own identity, as well as being aware of the future challenges they, and the world, may face.  We believe by adopting this approach, it encourages pupils to develop the skills needed to be critical thinkers, debaters, questioners and acceptors of change.
